Can we just take a minute to think about how, if I were to put up an identifiable nude picture of myself, on my own blog, taken in my own bathroom, it could come back around an ruin my life?
let’s just think about how, no matter what I do with my life - become a teacher, a lawyer, a scientist, a professor - a photograph of my naked body could render largely null and void the value that others would be willing to give to me.
It would not matter if I were a virgin - it would not matter if I meant them for a lover’s eyes only - it would not matter whether or not I did it for money - my own naked body could actually ruin my life and my work.
Can we just think about that? That is powerful, and not in a good way.

If a girl is lucky enough to receive any sex education, she will be taught the biological basics. Sheโll learn that men have penises and testicles and produce sperm and women have vaginas and uterii and produce ova. Sheโll learn that when a man and a woman have sex, the man inserts his penis into the womanโs vagina until he ejaculates. Sheโll learn that the semen in the ejaculate will render her vulnerable to pregnancy so she will have to protect herself by using a hormonal or a barrier contraceptive. Hormonal contraception is preferable because barrier methods such as condoms, while safer for women, apparently reduce sensation for men which is obviously a no-no. Itโs much better that a woman take a pill every day for her entire reproductive lifespan, or get a painful injection every 12 weeks, or have a copper rod inserted into her uterus, or a silicone rod implanted into her arm. She probably wonโt learn that 3 out of 4 women never orgasm from vaginal intercourse. She almost definitely wonโt learn how women do achieve orgasm. Sheโll learn her place as a receptacle.

If a woman who has contributed as much to the culture, genre, and perception of gaming as Felicia Day can be dismissed as โa glorified booth babeโ by someone who hasnโt even bothered to read her โportfolio,โ then itโs safe to say that the problem is even worse on the ground for less well-known women who make their living in the industry, much less for female gamers themselves.
hi so i don’t play any of the mass effects but my momma does.
unfortunately none of her friends are gamers. hitherto, she has avoided online gaming but in the case of mass effect 3 she needs to do it to raise her EMS (??? idk what that is but i hope i got the terminology right) so she can get a particular trophy/ending that she wants real bad.
do any casual, non-douche gamers wanna do some co-op missions w/ my mom? today she came to me and was like “i don’t know if you know this, but the people who game online are really mean :(” and it just about broke my heart.
she goes out of her way to revive people on her team but they just make fun of her and leave her for dead when she gets killed. which most ppl won’t be surprised by (gamer dudebros are assholes? did you also know WATER IS WET?) but this entire culture is totally alien to my poor mother and all she wants to not be harassed and stressed out while playing a game that’s supposed to be her chill-out time after a long and stressful work day.
i don’t rly have the money or the time rn to buy the game all over again for pc and play it myself but i totally will if need be just figured i’d ask if there are any preexisting mass effect 3 players out there who would be willing to not be humongous douchebags to my momma in co-op.
